NIH has launched a new seven-year initiative called the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) program that is designed to understand the effects of environmental exposures on child health and development. Our dual-family design addresses a fundamental confound that will allow us to isolate early environmental exposures from heritable influences on familial clustering of health problems to investigate the role of early life exposures and the underlying biological mechanisms in childhood health.
